The California Wine Club Cork Drive Contest

It’s your time to do something great and win for doing it!

Last week I posted about The California Wine Club joining forces with ReCork in reusing and recycling corks from the wine we drink. Reusing corks is a small way to get into the habit of making use of a natural product beyond its initial purpose. Cork is 100% natural, biodegradable, renewable and sustainable. Cork forests in the Mediterranean provide a vital source of income for thousands of families. The oak forests of the region  support one of the world’s highest levels of forest biodiversity. The trees are not cut down; rather their bark is harvested every 9 years. Not only that, but a harvested tree absorbs more carbon and each tree can live up to 200 years.

ReCORK is an organization that has dedicated its resources to the education of consumers about the value of using cork, cork production as an industry, and the positive impact of natural cork forests on climate change. Corks collected during the drive will go into a range of cork-derived products, including  SOLE footwear.

The goal, of the drive is to reach 20 million corks collected by the end of September and once it’s reached, 1,000 cork trees will be planted in the Mediterranean cork forest.

How can you get involved? For every person who sends corks in to hoopLA, they will be entered in a drawing for one shipment of CA Wine Club wine! You can send your corks to Whitney Lader, 12924 Pierce St., Pacoima, CA 91331. Start sending those corks in and you can win!

Follow @CWCcorkdrive on Twitter to find out about giveaways & discounts from The California Wine Club and SOLE footwear. Winner must be 21 or older, live in the continental US (excluding Utah) and be available to sign for the delivery.
